I am a feature writer and author, chronicling many of the thousands of aspects of English life that go
together to make this country such a rich society to live in today.
My areas of special interest include English parish churches (on which I have written two books),
maintaining and restoring historic buildings, local and building history, domestic building and
architecture old and new, building conservation issues, and all aspects of small businesses.
Over the past 20 years I have written for, among other publications, The Guardian, The Times, The
